Packing For Your Relocation

A guide to packing for your relocation

Making sure everything gets packed properly can be quite time consuming, and often it feels like there isn’t enough time to get everything done by moving day, as you will have lots of other things to worry about in addition to packing. By starting your packing early and being organized however, you can greatly simplify your packing and can take the time to make sure it’s done the right way.

Organizing

Before you start packing anything, have a clear out of all the old and unwanted stuff in the house. You should then try to sell or get rid of these items so you can focus on what you actually need to take with you to your new home. You can then focus on drawing up a packing schedule. Try to set yourself enough time to do a small amount everyday, and make sure you start this as early as possible, at least a month or two in advance of moving day, to make sure you have the time to get everything done at a reasonable pace.
You should ideally start packing things that are rarely used, such as valuables and other delicate items first, gradually staggering your packing so you slowly work your way toward the more essential everyday items as moving day gets closer. This way, once you are ready to move, you should have everything packed and ready to go except for a few minor essentials that can be packed last.

There are a couple of options here. You can often pick up most of your packing supplies from your removal company if you like, although this might be an additional cost that you don’t want to incur. The same can be said for online retailers - while it is often worth getting specialist containers for your breakables and valuable goods, most of your things can be packed in any cardboard box.

A great alternative is to simply go to your nearest grocers or local supermarket and see if they have any boxes to spare. They normally have plenty from deliveries in the week, and are normally more than happy to give these to you for free. As they have only been used once, most of these boxes should be in fairly good condition too.

The other essentials you’ll need is some good, durable packing tape and a Stanley knife. Both of these items might already be around the home, and are very useful for general tasks too so are worth the minor investment.

How to pack

how to pack
You should always start with the heaviest items first, and pack these at the bottom of your box. Think of filling the box like fitting the pieces of a puzzle together - you want as little space left as possible, with your items packed together as securely as possible. In between each item, place some bubble wrap or old newspaper to protect and cushion them, then add your next item. Once you have the heavier and bulkier things in, slot as many smaller items in the cracks as you can to fill up the space. One the box is packed, it should make very little noise if you shake it gently, and you shouldn’t feel too much movement. This indicates that everything is packed as securely as it can be.

It can be worth double taping the box together too, in order to ensure the seal doesn’t break in transit. Finally, make sure to clearly label all your boxes not only with contents, but also any special instructions, and also what room you want the boxes unloaded in,. This will save you lots of time when it comes to unpacking, as everything will be in the right room from the start. http://www.movingservicesremovals.co.uk/removal-companies/SW3-removal-services-chelsea.html
